Pioneering single-cell sorting system debuts in Shanghai
Obinl Biotech, a Shanghai-based emerging biotech company, debuted its single-cell sorting system, Soundpen CB, at the 11th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair.
Obinl Biotech is China's first life science instrument developer specializing in sound tweezer technology. Using ultrasonic waves, the company has pioneered a method to gently grasp and move microscopic objects for single-cell sorting.
The Soundpen CB system separates individual cells from a suspension and accurately places them. It is widely applicable in biopharmaceuticals, cell and tissue engineering, and synthetic biology.
Soundpen CB combines AI algorithms with sound tweezer chips. It allows for single-cell sorting rates that are five to six times faster than traditional dilution methods.
According to Zhuang Hui, product manager at Obinl, the device's lower production costs make it significantly more competitively priced than similar products on the market.
Obinl has secured over 20 invention patents and is working closely with leading research institutions all over the world. The company aims to begin mass production later this year.
