Putuo district supports enterprises in strengthening basic research
The three-day Feishu Mathematics Symposium opened on Aug 4 in Shanghai's Putuo district. This high-level platform connects global mathematicians with interdisciplinary experts, aiming to advance fundamental mathematical research, mathematics education reform, and the application of mathematics in industries.
The symposium's opening coincided with Shanghai's release of policy measures to encourage enterprises to strengthen basic research and innovation.
Since establishing its presence in Putuo district last year, Feishu has leveraged its overseas academic network and the "academia-industry-government" collaboration model to launch four postdoctoral research projects and establish a postdoctoral innovation experimental base in the district, strengthening basic research in the district.
Two major international high-level mathematics laboratories jointly initiated by Feishu and the Spanish Institute of Mathematics Sciences - the Fefferman Lab and the Hitchin-Ngo Lab - have recently been launched in Putuo district.
To encourage enterprises to increase investment in basic research, the district has also provided multi-faceted policies and subsidies to further support the development of key industries and future industries.
As part of the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt initiative, Putuo district is working to strengthen collaboration among research institutes, universities, and leading enterprises in the cities of Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou, Nantong, Zhenjiang, and Taizhou, which are involved in the initiative. The goal is to better align resources, market needs, and partnerships to drive coordinated innovation across the region.
The district aims to create an ecosystem that integrates technological and industrial innovations, helping turn Shanghai into an international science and technology innovation center.
