Baosteel unveils breakthrough ultra-thin silicon steel
Shanghai-based Baosteel Group unveiled a new non-oriented silicon steel product on May 22 that is thinner than a sheet of A4 paper.
Non-oriented silicon steel, a soft magnetic alloy widely used in the production of generators and electric motors, plays a vital role in improving motor efficiency through its exceptional electromagnetic performance.
The new product, model B10AHV900M, measures just 0.1 millimeters in thickness and has extremely low iron loss, which minimizes energy consumption under high-frequency alternating magnetic fields.
Baosteel has already achieved mass production, combining ultra-thinness with superior performance in what is considered a major breakthrough for the motor industry.
The company is cooperating with leading motor manufacturers such as United Automotive Electronic Systems to use the ultra-thin silicon steel in the production of top-tier new energy vehicles.
Beyond automobiles, the ultra-thin silicon steel is expected to find applications in advanced fields such as humanoid robots and low-altitude aircraft.
According to Wang Bo, head of Baosteel's research team, the company's latest products "are internationally cutting-edge, and will help address the urgent need for high-end materials in new industries."
