Shanghai begins free HPV vaccination program for teen girls
Shanghai began implementing the national HPV vaccination program on Nov 10, allowing girls aged 13 to receive free bivalent HPV vaccines at the city's health institutions.
Parents can schedule a vaccination for their teen daughters born after Nov 10, 2011 through the "Suishenban" or "Health Cloud" apps at clinics across all 16 districts.
Guardians must accompany their child to appointments and bring the child's vaccination certificate and valid identification.
Last month, China's health authorities added HPV vaccination to the national immunization program, offering free inoculations to girls aged 13.
While the national program provides free bivalent HPV vaccines, Shanghai's vaccination clinics continue to offer other HPV vaccines outside the immunization program.
The initiative aims to prevent cervical cancer, a leading threat to women's health.
Medical evidence shows that vaccination during early adolescence provides optimal protection. Girls aged 9-14 develop antibody levels twice as high as those vaccinated after age 15.
The two-dose regimen, administered six months apart, begins offering protection shortly after the first vaccination.
Here is a step-by-step guide to scheduling your appointment on "Health Cloud" (健康云) app.
