Paws on board: Shanghai expands pet-friendly bus route
Shanghai's first pet-friendly bus line, launched on May 24, has become a popular choice among pet owners.
The customized weekend-only service has been recently upgraded and now runs between Langxiang Park in Baoshan district and the Gate M West Bund Dream Center in Xuhui district.
Along the way, the route passes several key landmarks, including Suhe MixC World, IMIX Park in Jing'an district, and Xuhui Riverside Park.
The service operates two round trips per day, with each journey taking around 100 minutes and priced at 20 yuan (about $3). Each bus offers 38 seats with a "one person, one pet" policy.
Tickets must be reserved in advance via Shanghai's "Mobility as a Service" (MaaS) platform, or Suishenxing. Once the bus departs from the first stop, reservations close. However, on-site purchases via QR code are still possible, subject to seat availability.
Note:
- Only pets under 40 cm in shoulder height are allowed.
- Dogs must have a valid license, cats must show proof of vaccination, and all pets are required to pass an on-board microchip check.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times and seated with their owners or on designated pads. Take pet diapers, pee pads, and waste bags to keep the bus clean.
- Certain breeds prohibited under Shanghai regulations are not allowed on board.
