Residents share stories of building 'people's city'
Local residents took center stage as storytellers of Shanghai's progress in building a "people's city" at a recent event highlighting the city's people-centered development.
Held at the Shanghai International Conference Center on Dec 11, the event featured eight representatives from diverse walks of life, who shared personal experiences that reflected the city's spirit of inclusiveness and innovation.
Among them was Upadhyaya Nagendra Rijal, a Nepali resident, who shared his family's four-decade connection to the city.
"My father studied here in the 1980s, and now my daughter attends a local kindergarten. Shanghai is our home," said the Nepali executive. He noted that his team, made up of members from 50 countries, mirrors the city's global outlook and open spirit.
Through stories like his, the event illustrated how grassroots participation continues to shape Shanghai's urban ethos. Narratives ranged from preserving revolutionary history through artistic expression to fostering harmony in multicultural workplaces, offering vivid examples of how individuals contribute to the city's shared development.
In addition to personal accounts, the event also released exemplary cases in practicing the concept of building a "people's city" across the 16 districts.
