A five-year-old Chinese-American girl has recently undergone successful surgery at Shanghai Children's Medical Center to remove overgrown skin tissue from her forehead.

Gloria was diagnosed with nevus sebaceus, a benign, congenital skin birthmark that usually presents with patches of alopecia. After learning that Shanghai Children's Medical Center has extensive experience in treating similar skin disorders, her family contacted the medical team led by doctor Deng Dan through online consultations.

The hospital coordinated the surgery arrangements and provided bilingual communication throughout the process, ensuring that Gloria's non-Chinese-speaking father could fully understand each step of the treatment.

In March, Gloria underwent her first surgery, which produced encouraging results. A second surgery was recently completed, successfully removing the lesion through precise preoperative assessments and minimally invasive techniques.

The center's expertise has also attracted patients from other countries. Andy, a young patient from Singapore, was diagnosed with a similar skin disease. After his parents learned about Deng's expertise online, they decided to bring him to Shanghai for surgery.

The procedure removed a significant portion of the lesion while preserving the overall health of the scalp.

Similarly, Chen Chen, a Canadian girl of Chinese descent, received treatment for a congenital facial skin lesion at the same hospital.

To date, Shanghai Children's Medical Center has treated nearly 10,000 international pediatric patients, with the dermatology department alone providing care for over 100 children.
