China's 2nd homegrown cruise giant nears debut
China's second domestically-built cruise ship, Adora Flora City, is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026.
Currently under construction in Shanghai, the vessel has reached a project completion rate of 94 percent, according to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
Compared with Adora Magic City, the nation's first home-built cruise ship, Adora Flora City is larger, with a gross tonnage of 141,900 tons and a length of 341 meters, roughly the equivalent of three soccer fields.
The ship features 2,144 guest cabins and can accommodate 5,232 passengers.
Inspired by the flying apsaras depicted in the Dunhuang murals, the vessel features a hull adorned with flowing ribbons in vermilion, azure, and gold, evoking drifting clouds.
The vessel introduces a wider range of cabin categories and immersive entertainment facilities, including virtual reality experiences.
Building on the experience gained from constructing Adora Magic City, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has increased the localization rate of its new cruise ship to around 35 percent. This includes the localization of nano-insulation materials, key equipment, and digital entertainment systems.
The cruise ship is scheduled to commence sea trials at the end of May.
