Shanghai pilots digital service to ease travel for international visitors
Shanghai has become the first city in China to host a demonstration site for Meet China, a multilingual digital platform that helps international visitors access travel information, place orders, and pay using familiar methods.
The platform was presented at a Meet China resource matchmaking event for cultural and tourism development, held recently at the Shanghai Municipal Industry Development Promotion Center of Culture and Tourism. The event focused on enhancing inbound tourism.
Developed by China Digital Culture Group Co Ltd, Meet China serves as an AI-powered travel assistant for international visitors, with core capabilities that enable users to understand information instantly and make payments seamlessly.
Powered by city knowledge bases, the platform provides real-time assistance, consumption guidance, and travel recommendations in 10 languages. It helps visitors quickly understand product features, cultural stories, and services before placing an order or making a purchase.
The platform supports the full consumption process. For example, users can search for nearby local restaurants, order food online, and collect their meals by presenting an order receipt at the restaurant.
Meet China also supports merchants, tourist attractions, and hotels by providing content, product translation, and data feedback, helping them improve services for international customers.
Meet China terminals have been installed at numerous major tourism and commercial destinations, including Yuyuan Garden, Hong Kong Plaza, and Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park.
The platform will be introduced at more hotels and major cultural and tourism projects serving international guests.
At the upcoming exhibition A House of Nobility: Aesthetics and Cultivation of Life in the Mawangdui Han Tombs, Meet China terminals will be installed in several areas of the Shanghai Art Museum. The platform will provide multilingual information and offer packages combining admission tickets, cultural merchandise, and themed dining.
Data on visitors' interactions and consumption preferences will support tourism promotion and product development, helping Shanghai provide more targeted services for international travelers.
Shanghai also plans to deepen cooperation with the national-level platform and develop the country's first Meet China consumption service application demonstration zone, further strengthening the city's position as a leading gateway for inbound tourism.
