Shanghai's Yuyuan Garden Malls unveiled the "Meet China" Inbound Tourism Digital Consumption Screen on Sept 27, the country's first set of digital self-service terminals designed to enhance cultural and tourism consumption for international visitors.

The screens integrate product recommendations, storytelling-style introductions, multilingual interaction, and international payment options, allowing visitors to complete the entire journey from being interested in to purchase with ease.

Offerings range from curated dining and cultural experiences to souvenirs. Information is available in 10 languages, in both text and audio, with accessible explanations and cultural stories that illuminate the meaning behind each product. Clear package options further simplify the experience, helping visitors make confident choices during their stay.

For payments, the system features an international small-amount payment terminal jointly developed by China Digital Culture Group and China UnionPay Merchant Services Payment Inc. This feature allows international bank cards to be used for purchases under 1,000 yuan (about $140) without entering a password.

The initial "What to Eat" screens spotlight four historic Yuyuan restaurants: Lu Bo Lang, Hu Xin Ting tea house, Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant, and Songyue Lou vegetarian restaurant. Each provides special set menus for international visitors, with clear multilingual descriptions, ingredient details, allergen information, and clear vegetarian options.

The first "What to Do and What to Buy" screens feature immersive experiences and souvenirs, such as the Yu Yuan Zhuang Zao hanfu costume store and a VR experience inspired by Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty II: To the West. Packages are explained in multiple languages, souvenirs are labeled with "must-buy reasons" and material details, and cultural experiences are presented with easy-to-follow instructions emphasizing their cultural significance.
