Celebrate Chinese New Year in Pudong: Art, food, and festive fun

Pudong New Area has launched its Chinese New Year Carnival, with events running through March. Spanning five major shopping areas, the event features art installations, cultural exhibitions, interactive attractions, and international cuisine. Here are some highlights of the celebrations.

In the Lujiazui shopping area, visitors can admire Prada's red horse installation at IFC Mall, a striking sculpture composed of countless geometric triangles. Nearby, the Oriental Pearl Tower will host a My Little Pony-themed display from Feb 6 to 27, featuring city-exclusive merchandise. At the Museum of Art Pudong, a historic horse-head dagger is on display, while themed markets and live music performances enhance the festive atmosphere of the Year of the Horse.

Along Zhangyang Road, L+Mall features a real ice-skating rink and an 18-meter-tall double-decker carousel. At 96 Plaza, an 8-meter-tall Brown Bear from Line Friends has become a popular photo spot, complemented by dining and retail vouchers for visitors.

In Qiantan, Taikoo Li Qiantan debuts Pop Mart's giant Twinkle Twinkle installation for Chinese New Year, on display through Feb 28. Qiantan Park will host a Spring Festival-themed market from Jan 31 to Feb 1, followed by a Lantern Festival celebration on March 1.

The Expo area showcases both historical art and seasonal displays. The China Art Museum will present a Duoyunxuan exhibition from Jan 31 to March 18, featuring 105 rare works spanning a millennium, including calligraphy, painted albums, stone carvings, rare books, rubbings, and seals. Visitors can also stroll through the Expo Cultural Park to enjoy seasonal floral installations from Feb 14 to May 6.

At Shanghai International Resort, Shanghai Disneyland features interactive snowman installations inspired by characters from Zootopia. Nearby, Bicester Village Shanghai offers year-end discounts alongside traditional Chinese New Year activities, including lion dances and God-of-Wealth pop-up appearances, creating a festive shopping experience.

The carnival also coincides with the European Flavor season of Global Taste in Shanghai, with more than 100 participating restaurants across Pudong. Selected venues such as Latina and Tapa Tapa offer curated menus ranging from Southern European Mediterranean dishes to classic Northern European cuisine, allowing visitors to celebrate Chinese New Year with global flavors.
