Exhibitions open in Shanghai's historic villas
Historic villas across the city are hosting several new exhibitions this season. The programs cover intangible cultural heritage, high jewelry, contemporary art, and a Lantern Festival market. Here are some highlights:
Blooming Heritage Exhibition at Sunke Villa
This exhibition brings together inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and contemporary artists. Techniques on display include Shanghai-style silk embroidery, batik, bamboo weaving, paper-cutting, and traditional lantern craft, presented alongside floral installations.
Instead of using standard display cases, the works are integrated into the villa's original architecture. Pieces are installed within brick walls, window frames, and former living spaces, creating a viewing route divided into three sections.

Echoes of Inspiration: V Muse high jewelry exhibition at Zhangyuan
This exhibition presents nearly 50 high jewelry pieces from V Muse. The selection includes classical Chinese jewelry, European historical works once associated with the Bourbon-Parma family, and four newly released signature creations.
The exhibition is arranged in six sections tracing the brand's collection history and design approach. Throughout the exhibition period, craftsmen from a high jewelry atelier in Paris will conduct live demonstrations to emphasize key production techniques.

Year of the Horse special exhibition at Tongle Lane
The exhibition is held at Up Art inside Tongle Lane, a residential compound built in 1905 that combines Queen Anne Revival features with a veranda-style layout. The site was formerly the residence of Zuo Shuzhen, a noted salt reformer during China's Republican period (1912-49).
Thirteen artists present works in ink painting, oil painting, sculpture, calligraphy, and related formats. Centered on the image of the horse, the exhibition explores themes of vitality and forward momentum celebrated during Spring Festival.

Lantern Festival market at Prada Rong Zhai
Prada Rong Zhai will host a Lantern Festival market from March 1 to 3, and will be open to the public every evening. Visitors can watch sugar painting demonstrations, take part in floral and calligraphy activities, and explore a lantern riddle area featuring more than 100 lanterns. The riddles draw on classical poetry and Year of the Horse themes. A selection of savory dishes, desserts, and drinks inspired by festival flavors will be available on site.
