Monocle opens its first Chinese mainland pop-up in Shanghai
Monocle, a London-based media and lifestyle brand, opened its first pop-up on the Chinese mainland, Monocle Shop & Cafe, at Jing An Kerry Centre in Shanghai's Jing'an district on April 25.
This marks the brand's first entry into the Chinese mainland market, following previous launches in cities such as London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Zurich.
The space is located in the L1 atrium of the mall's north building and is designed to feel like a calm urban living room. Created in collaboration with Swiss furniture brand USM and Shanghai-based design studio Stellar Works, it offers areas for reading, shopping, and casual visits. The layout includes a retail area, a cafe, and a small reading section.
Visitors can browse the latest issues of Monocle magazine and related publications, along with curated global lifestyle items, independent craft goods, specialty coffee beans, and Shanghai-exclusive tote bags. Each item reflects selections made by the magazine's editors around the world, offering a more curated retail experience within the mall.
Just a few steps away, the mall has also partnered with Gr8ONE, a platform curating domestic and international trend-focused magazines, to open a retro-style newsstand where visitors can purchase individual issues of Monocle and other lifestyle publications.
