As the weather cools, Shanghai's nightlife comes alive with river cruises, outdoor concerts, food markets, cultural events, and interactive experiences. Here are some options to explore from mid-September through the National Day holiday.

A night cruise along the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek

Where: Waitanyuan route on Suzhou Creek; Xuhui waterfront route on the Huangpu River

Suzhou Creek cruises will offer a special 30-minute route featuring a light show around Waitanyuan. One themed cruise features a replica envelope installation at the stern, inspired by the Shanghai Postal Museum. When the boat docks, passengers can also take photos with riverside landmarks in the background.

Passengers who purchase tickets for the themed night cruises will receive a free commemorative scented card and a Shanghai-style snack. During the National Day holiday, selected cruises will offer live performances and limited-edition cultural products.

The Oriental Pearl Tower and Stayreal have collaborated to launch a themed cruise that runs throughout the National Day holiday. This special cruise features a limited-edition boarding gift and exclusive themed merchandise, offering a chance to enjoy scenic views while experiencing a touch of creativity and culture associated with these iconic brands.

At the Oriental Pearl Tourism Wharf, visitors can explore a pop-up store featuring themed art installations. The location also offers an opportunity to take photos with the Huangpu River as a scenic backdrop.

 

Pop Land carnival tour

The Pop Land carnival tour is currently taking place at two locations in Shanghai: the Oriental Pearl Tower in Pudong New Area and Shanghai No 1 Department Store in Huangpu district.

The tour follows Labubu on an exciting adventure inspired by a mysterious treasure map. At the Oriental Pearl Tower, visitors can enjoy a carnival area with nine interactive games. Pop Bakery, a dessert brand under Pop Mart, is also hosting a limited-time pop-up where visitors can indulge in character-themed ice cream, cookies, and other desserts.

The tour offers combination tickets to enhance the visitor experience by pairing the carnival activities with additional attractions. These tickets include options to visit the Shanghai Urban History and Development Museum, enjoy buffet dining, or even stay at a hotel. From Sept 15 to Oct 15, the Oriental Pearl Tower's outdoor plaza will also host a market featuring more than 10 brands, including time-honored labels and popular fashion brands.

 

Outdoor concerts at Taikoo Li Qiantan

Where: Taikoo Li Qiantan

This weekend concert series takes place on the large eastern lawn of Central Park at Taikoo Li Qiantan. The series features performances by a diverse lineup of musicians, creating a relaxed atmosphere for live music and leisurely weekend enjoyment.

 

Moonlit Tipsy Music Night

When: Sept 25 to 27

Where: LU1885

The Shanghai Light Music Orchestra will perform a selection of live arrangements, while a Mexican band will bring lively rhythms to the stage, with opportunities for dancing.

 

Creation Carb Market

When: Sept 20 to Oct 19

Where: Rose Garden, Qiantan Leisure Park

The market boasts around 50 stalls offering an array of Chinese and Western carb-based foods, along with creative products and intangible cultural heritage experiences. Visitors can collect stamps and join DIY workshops while listening to live music on the lawn.

 

Go! Bistro global food market

When: Sept 24 to 27

Where: Shanghai No 1 Yaohan

The food market will extend from the landmark curved wall at Shanghai No 1 Yaohan toward Zhangyang Road. The market will feature around 40 bistro-style food and dessert stalls, offering a delightful mix of international flavors alongside dishes from China's eight major regional cuisines.

Visitors can look forward to engaging with chefs, learning about food and drink pairings, and enjoying social activities throughout the market.

Art To Gather

When: Sept 25 to Oct 7

Where: Xintiandi; Xintiandi Dongtaili

Art To Gather will celebrate music, dance, and street performances, featuring artists from China and abroad. The event will take place across Xintiandi, including the Xintiandi Dongtaili area. Xintiandi Dongtaili will host a car-themed carnival as part of the event, building on last year's Xintiandi Carnival.

 

2026 Grand Yuyuan Heritage Season · Music Fills Yuyuan

When: Sept 15 to Nov 30

Where: Yuyuan Garden; Bund Finance Center

The event in the Grand Yuyuan area will feature traditional Chinese performances and light shows. Highlights include a special performance on the lake at Jiuqu Bridge on Sept 19, plus regular shows every Saturday.

The event will also showcase themed markets and special promotions from local businesses across the Grand Yuyuan area.

 

Science night market at Sinan Mansions

When: Sept 18 to 19

Where: Sinan Mansions

An array of participants, including research institutes, science venues, universities, companies, and academic organizations, will gather for the science-themed night market. Visitors can browse science-related cultural products, learn about the latest advances in health and technology, and discover innovative agricultural products.

 

The Fuxing Art Season

When: Sept 24 to 27; Sept 30 to Oct 4

Where: Sinan Mansions; Fuxing Park

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Fuxing Art Season will offer a selection of wines, specialty foods, and music for visitors at Sinan Mansions and Fuxing Park.

 

Fullmoon Life Festival

When: Sept 25 to 27; Sept 30 to Oct 4

Where: Sinan Mansions

More than 70 vendors will present specialty foods, craft beer, creative products, and other lifestyle goods during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Visitors can enjoy live performances throughout the day across three stages.

As the festival continues into the National Day holiday, it will expand to include a night market, stage performances, art installations, exhibitions, and interactive activities. More than 30 musicians will also perform.

 

Jing'an district

Shanghai heritage · Full Moon at Zhangyuan

When: Sept 25 to 27

Where: Zhangyuan E25; North Maoming Road

The event will shine a spotlight on Shanghai's rich Mid-Autumn traditions, including zou yueliang, or "walking under the moon", a custom where women would gather for evening walks and enjoy the serene beauty of the moonlit scenery.

Zhangyuan will feature two to three Mid-Autumn-themed decorative installations along North Maoming Road, crafted using traditional intangible cultural heritage techniques. Six intangible cultural heritage workshops will also be held at E25, with each session limited to 10 participants.

 

New Tech & Culture Innovation Festival · Karaoke Bus

Where: Yongyuan Road, Jing'an Park, and Wujiang Road area

The Karaoke Bus is a highlight of the New Tech & Culture Innovation Festival, which will feature nearly 100 activities in the West Nanjing Road commercial area. The festival will showcase the latest developments in artificial intelligence, the metaverse, fashion, and consumer industries in Jing'an.

Lego Blooming Exhibition

The exhibition marks the global debut of the Lego Group's new brand positioning in Shanghai and is a significant highlight of the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season. Seventh Mystery Theatre Showcase Week
