Shanghai International Studies University is organizing the 2026 winter short-term Chinese language learning program. Registration is now open. Details are provided as follows.

Curriculum and activities

1. The program focuses on developing Chinese language listening, speaking, and reading skills. Classes are offered at three proficiency levels — beginner, elementary, and intermediate — and will be offered once at least 10 students enroll at that level.

2. Chinese language courses are scheduled from Monday to Thursday, with four morning sessions from 8:30 am to 11:50 am. Depending on enrollment, elective cultural courses such as Chinese calligraphy, tai chi, and paper cutting may be offered in the afternoon.

3. The university will organize one complimentary city tour every Friday. Each student may take part in up to two tours during the program.

Program dates and application

1. The 2026 winter short-term program will run from Jan 13 to Feb 6, 2026, with registration day on Jan 12, 2026.

2. The application deadline is Nov 30, 2025.

Eligibility

The program is open to foreign nationals aged 16 to 50 who are in good health, and possess sufficient financial means. Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Application procedure

1. Fill out the online application form at the admissions website:

2. Pay the application fee online: 450 yuan ($63), or $75 for overseas wire transfers. For detailed payment information, please refer to:

Admission process

1. The university reviews the submitted application materials.

2. Once admitted, students should take the DQ Form and the admission notice issued by the university to apply for an X2 visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country.

3. Students must arrive at the university on the designated date to complete registration and pay all required fees using their admission notice and passport.
