Shanghai Summer celebrates highlights, builds high hopes

The first-ever Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season started on July 6, sending the city into a summer-long celebration. With a dynamic mix of shopping, travel, culture, sports, and exhibitions, the season offered experiences that showcased Shanghai's allure as a global shopping and entertainment destination. Seven key events drew global attention and hosted enthusiastic participation from locals and visitors.

Season highlights

1. Shanghai International Cruise Festival

Blending land and sea, the cruise festival put Shanghai's ports and shopping areas in the spotlight with "cruise+" themes, offering fresh experiences for everyone.

2. On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt Exhibition

This one-of-a-kind exhibit merged history with shopping, giving visitors an unforgettable journey through ancient Egypt. Held in collaboration with major shopping areas like Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, and Yuyuan Garden, it brought a touch of the past to Shanghai's bustling modern streets.

3. City Walk Pro: Experience Shanghai Now

Hosted by Xiaohongshu, the second City Walk Pro filled Shanghai with over 200 events across multiple districts, creating memorable settings like sunset concerts, bustling markets, and lantern-lit streets. The combination of online and in-person experiences added depth to the city's cultural scene.

4. Shanghai International Light Festival

With its "Travel in Light" theme, the festival featured over 200 light shows across the city, transforming popular shopping areas into dazzling nighttime destinations and adding a new twist to evening shopping.

5. Shanghai International Electronic Music Festival

Held at the Shanghai International Circuit, this event fused music with tourism, boasting three stages and over 100 performers. The festival drew more than 50,000 visitors to surrounding shops and tourist spots, making a notable impact on local businesses.

6. ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters

The 2024 Shanghai ATP 1000 Masters was a major draw, blending sports with travel and commerce. "Ticket+" packages enhanced the fan experience with special deals on travel, hotels, and entertainment.

7. Shanghai Tourism Festival

Celebrating its 35th year, the Shanghai Tourism Festival drew nearly 39 million visitors, strengthening the city's night economy and showcasing it as a top travel destination. Highlights included themed events like the Eternal Notre Dame VR exhibition and the Shanghai Golden Autumn Shopping and Tourism Season.

With an exciting lineup of world-class events and uniquely local experiences, the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season has made for an unforgettable summer. As the season wraps up, anticipation is already building for what's next.
