As the Spring Festival approaches, the shopping areas in Shanghai's Jing'an district are really bustling these days with Chinese New Year markets.

Last weekend alone — from Jan 18 to 19 — three markets opened in the West Nanjing Road and Suhewan areas, creating an energetic pre-festival shopping vibe. Let's take a look at two of the most popular ones!

Starting from Jan 17, the market at Jiuguang Department Store's pedestrian street became a hotspot. The cheerful atmosphere drew both local and international visitors, many of whom stopped to take photos and enjoy the festive spirit.

Among the most popular attractions were Year of the Snake limited-edition items and traditional Chinese experiences, like tea brewing.

Among those browsing were Brazilian tourists, who bought two special Year of the Snake-themed bottles of baijiu from Luzhou Laojiao, one of the oldest Chinese liquor brands.

In addition to offering a variety of products, the market emphasized creativity and fun, featuring interactive activities like fu character stamp-making and live sesame paste grinding.

Elsewhere, at the Suhewan MixC World shopping mall, time-honored brands like Xin Chang Fa — known for its candied chestnuts — joined local favorites in offering an extensive array of New Year goods, from traditional snacks and dried fruits to festive clothing and creative gifts.

Together, these markets are said to not only provide a wealth of shopping options, but also bring a sense of community and anticipation for the upcoming holiday season.
