The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a multifaceted complex with several branches and buildings throughout Shanghai.

The main venue is located at No 2000 Century Avenue in Pudong New Area, alongside the Shanghai Natural History Museum at No 510 West Beijing Road, and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum in the Lin-gang Special Area.

Spanning 100,600 square metres, the museum is divided into 11 exhibition areas, each with its own distinct style. It also features four state-of-the-art theatres, three art galleries showcasing the works of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign scientists, two thematic special exhibition areas, and numerous temporary exhibition halls. Together, these facilities offer a diverse and immersive experience, exploring the timeless themes of "nature, man, science and technology" through various perspectives.

The Shanghai Natural History Museum covers a floor area of 45,257 square metres and consists of 10 permanent exhibition areas. In addition, it offers functional spaces such as temporary exhibition halls, a 4D theatre and a discovery centre. Notably, the Herbarium Building houses over 270,000 specimens of various types within its 3,065 square metres of floor space.

The Shanghai Astronomy Museum is dedicated to the theme of "connecting people and the universe". It comprises three core exhibition areas: Home, Universe, and Journey. The planetarium aims to ignite curiosity and provide an immersive experience of the wonders of the night sky, allowing visitors to explore the mysteries of the universe. Through captivating displays and engaging educational activities, it seeks to cultivate a comprehensive and profound understanding of the universe among its visitors.
