The Shanghai Museum has improved its services by extending reservation periods and launching a dedicated reservation channel to better accommodate both domestic and international visitors, particularly focusing on overseas tourists.
The improvements include an extension of the reservation window from seven to 14 days in advance, starting from April 19. The adjustment aligns with the standard practice for international museum visits and has garnered positive feedback from tourism professionals, especially considering the museum's renowned collection of ancient Chinese art.
To address the challenges overseas travelers face in making reservations, the museum introduced an overseas visitor reservation channel on its English-language website on April 19. This initiative aims to streamline the reservation process for individual overseas travelers, who will receive a reservation QR code via email upon successful booking for verification on the day of their visit.

Professionals working in multinational corporations in Shanghai have welcomed the museum's initiative, seeing it as a positive step for overseas tourists seeking independent exploration in the city.
For group reservations, the museum will continue to utilize the telephone reservation channel for overseas tourists, with limited slots allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are required to present the group itinerary and visitor information for verification on the day of their visit.
In addition to these changes, the museum is upgrading its audio guide rental services to better accommodate overseas tourists, aiming to enhance the overall visitor experience and provide insights into China's rich history and culture.
Widely recognized as a crucial window for the world to experience China and vice versa, the Shanghai Museum has become a popular destination for tourists worldwide. Its recent brand exhibitions, such as "The Essence of China" and "A Dialogue with the World Exhibition Series of Arts and Cultural Relics", have garnered significant international attention, attracting numerous overseas tourists to Shanghai.
With the entry visa process to China becoming more convenient and international flights gradually resuming, an increasing number of overseas tourists are opting for exploration in Shanghai. As of April 7, overseas visitors accounted for 5 percent of the total visitors to the Shanghai Museum.
