Overseas golfers embrace Jiading's culture ahead of Volvo China Open
The Volvo China Open is taking place from April 17 to 20 at the Enhance Anting Golf Club in Shanghai's Jiading district, the first DP World Tour event to be held in six years.
During a special pre-tournament event on April 16, 17 international golfers, their caddies, and families explored Jiading's cultural treasures.
The day began on Nanxiang Old Street, where the group was introduced to the area's rich history and vibrant local life. They wandered past the iconic twin towers and along cobblestone paths to Tanyuan Garden.
Here, the serene environment was enhanced by the sounds of the guzheng (a plucked zither), playing traditional Chinese melodies like Rain in Jiangnan and Blue and White Porcelain.
Brandon Robinson Thompson, a golfer from the United Kingdom, was particularly impressed by his first visit to Shanghai. "The beauty of Jiading's gardens and ancient towns is breathtaking, and the guzheng music adds a magical touch. It's the perfect way to unwind before the competition," he said.
The cultural journey continued at the Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant, where participants learned to make xiaolongbao under the guidance of skilled artisans.
Angel Ayora from Spain was thrilled with what he created, eagerly consuming six xiaolongbao and exclaiming, "These are incredibly delicious! I've got to bring my family here and try making them at home."
The group then visited Guyi Garden, which is designed in the typical style of a Jiangnan classical garden, to experience its early summer beauty. They admired the intricate landscapes of zigzag bridges, lush bamboo groves, and cascading wisteria, capturing these moments on their mobiles.
