Yangshan Port handles 760,000 TEUs over Spring Festival holiday
Yangshan Port saw robust vessel traffic during the Spring Festival holiday period, handling a container throughput of 760,000 twenty-foot equivalent units while maintaining a high berth utilization rate.
During the nine-day holiday period that ran from Feb 15 to 23, the Yangshan Border Inspection Station oversaw over 260 international vessels entering and leaving the port, a 9 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The port also inspected more than 6,300 inbound and outbound personnel, an 8.9 percent rise year-on-year.
The momentum continued on Feb 24, the first working day after the holiday. At the terminal, cargo handling operations proceeded at a rapid pace.
The container ship COSCO Shipping Thames loaded and unloaded 4,148 TEUs of containers in less than 19 hours.
To improve efficiency, the port streamlined the clearance process for ships staying less than 24 hours without crew changes by completing both inbound and outbound procedures simultaneously, facilitating faster cargo flow.
