Can I apply for a certificate of no criminal record while outside China?
Q: I currently reside in Canada and am unable to travel to China.
I would like to know whether there is an alternative procedure for obtaining my Certificate of No Criminal Record remotely, without having a representative physically present in Shanghai.
If not, could you provide an official written confirmation that the certificate cannot be issued remotely, or that I cannot obtain it in my circumstances?
A: There is currently no online application channel, and no official written statement can be provided.
Applications must be submitted either by an authorized representative or in person.
If a foreign applicant is outside China and entrusts another person to apply for a Certificate of No Criminal Record on their behalf, the following documents must be submitted:
- Copies of the applicant's passport(s) and residence permit(s) valid during the period covered by the request;
- The original authorization document signed by the applicant, authenticated by a Chinese embassy or consulate abroad or bearing an Apostille;
- A valid identity document of the authorized representative.
