Q: I am a Vietnamese international student currently holding an X2 short-term study visa and have completed one semester at a university in Shanghai. I am now preparing to transfer to another university in Shanghai to continue my studies for one more semester.

In this situation, can I apply in Shanghai to have my X2 visa replaced when transferring to another university? What supporting documents are required?

A: If you need to have your X2 visa replaced within China, you must obtain approval from both your current and new schools as well as the competent authority.

You must also obtain a certificate from your current school confirming that your studies there have ended.

For details of the required documents, please refer to "X2 (short-term study) visas (A010)" on the website of the Exit-Entry Administration Corps of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau.
