Shanghai, a real melting pot of world cultures and cuisines, was home to nearly 9,800 restaurants by the end of last year — offering culinary delights from five continents and 43 countries.

Recently, the Shanghai Commercial Association — in collaboration with the Shanghai Institute of Industry Transition and Development — launched the 2024 Shanghai World Cuisine Distribution Index, highlighting the diverse global flavors that define the city's exciting food scene.

The report with the index revealed that Shanghai's culinary landscape continues to thrive, with commercial complexes emerging as key hubs for global cuisine.

According to the index, commercial complexes such as Shanghai Global Harbor, Century Link Mall, and Jiuguang Department Store rank as the top destinations with the highest concentration of global culinary outlets in Shanghai.

Moreover, specialty shopping areas like Laowai Street, Daxue Road, Xintiandi and Panlong Tiandi are also go-to destinations for global foodies.

Top locations to explore international cuisine in Shanghai

- Global Harbor: Known for its stunning 52-floor terrace offering panoramic views of the city's skyline, it's a must-visit for foodies and photographers alike. Situated 258 meters above the ground, it offers a view of the iconic Lujiazui skyline, the architectural landmarks of Putuo district and the winding Suzhou Creek. As the sun sets, this spot transforms into one of the most romantic sites in the city, offering an unforgettable sunset and a breathtaking nighttime cityscape.
