Shanghai welcomes two shopping landmarks at year's end
As the end of the year approaches, Shanghai's commercial landscape is gaining fresh momentum with the opening of two major new shopping destinations.
On Dec 6, L+City opened in the Zhangjiang AI Innovation Town in Pudong New Area. Less than three weeks later, on Dec 23, Hongqiao Qianwan Incity Mega welcomed its first visitors in the Hongqiao International Central Business District. Together, the two commercial projects are adding new energy to both the eastern and western sides of the city.
Located in Huacao town, Minhang district, Hongqiao Qianwan Incity Mega drew strong crowds from its first day. Covering roughly 260,000 square meters, it is the second Incity Mega commercial project in Shanghai. The mall is nearly fully leased, with more than 300 brands opening at launch. Around 70 percent are first stores, flagship stores, or concept stores, including the Shanghai debut of Crying Center and Bigx, offering a complete regional shopping center experience for the Hongqiao Qianwan area.
Designed to serve nearby biomedical industries and a young, highly educated population, the mall has introduced a community-based lifestyle ecosystem. By partnering with organizations such as Costco, New Hongqiao International Medical Center, and Radisson Blu Forest Manor Shanghai Hongqiao, it offers services spanning healthcare, education, and membership programs. Members can enjoy benefits such as health consultations and medical check-up discounts, helping integrate shopping with daily life and work needs.
In Pudong's Zhangjiang area, L+City has quickly attracted attention with its focus on smart retail. In the first 10 days after opening, average daily foot traffic reached about 60,000, and total visits exceeded 210,000 in the first three days alone.
Closely linked to the technology-driven identity of Zhangjiang Science City, the mall features technology-inspired art installations and interactive science exhibits. It has also introduced Shanghai's first city-level AI customer service assistant, known as "Lu Xiaoqiu", bringing artificial intelligence into daily operations and services. Built around themes such as technology, sports, family growth, and pet-friendly living, L+City is designed to suit young professionals and families, establishing itself as a key lifestyle hub in the area.
