The program was launched to train international teachers for Chinese language education in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

,While promoting understanding and communication between China and the BRI countries, it is designed to cultivate local talented people and make them the “seeds” for Chinese language education.

It addresses the shortage of high-quality Chinese teachers in BRI countries, enabling them to tackle teaching tasks more efficiently and significantly enhancing their teaching skills and proficiency. Hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and organised by East China Normal University, a growing number of local Chinese teachers from the BRI countries have enhanced their teaching capabilities over the past five years,.

After rigorous selection from numerous applicants, 50 students from 17 BRI countries, including Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Slovakia were admitted. To enhance training effectiveness, authoritative experts and scholars in the field of international Chinese language education were invited to deliver special lectures. Additionally, experienced frontline teachers from East China Normal University's International Chinese Teacher Training Base conducted small group workshops to facilitate theme-based exchanges, providing a platform for brainstorming and inter-cultural communication.
