2024 Belt and Road Art Talent Training Program at Shanghai Theatre Academy
To enhance cultural exchanges and talent development, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM) and the Shanghai Theatre Academy will jointly launch the 2024 Belt and Road Art Talent Training Program, supported by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
Course Description:
Shanghai Theatre Academy will provide courses on Chinese opera practice, Chinese Opera theories and Chinese culture.
The main course focuses on performing traditional Chinese opera, which is composed of learning Chinese opera stances and movements, water sleeve routines, spear and sword routines, and selected scene work.
Culture and language courses will facilitate students in gaining a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
Shanghai Conservatory of Music will invite prestigious educators, performing artists and young teachers to deliver a comprehensive program for international students to appreciate and experience the most typical traditional Chinese and foreign musical instruments along the Silk Road.
During the program, students will have the opportunity to see traditional Chinese opera shows and go on a field trip.
Schedule:
Three weeks: June 5 - 26, 2024.
Chinese opera practice: 64 lessons (including final presentation)
Chinese culture: 20 lessons
Chinese music lecture and works: 8 lessons

Assessment:
An attendance rate over 90 percent is required for the program. At the end of the program, the students will be assessed in the form of a reporting performance. A certificate of completion will be issued on passing the assessment and reaching the required attendance rate.
Enrollment:
A total of 15 applicants will be enrolled as scholarship students. The scholarship will cover the application, tuition, lodging, activities and insurance fees in Shanghai. This program in principle is open to foreign students between the ages of 16 to 40, from overseas and of countries that are part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Expenses:
Tuition & Insurance: provided by STA
Lodging: provided by STA. Two students share a twin-bed room.
Meals: STA provides meal coupons for lunch and dinner at the canteen. Chinese and halal meals are available at the school canteen. Students who have special needs or food allergies must prepare their own meals.
Visa, international flights and all other expenses are the students' responsibility.

*STA will assess the application materials and issue the admission notice to students who are enrolled via email. Students may also check the application status online: http://isoadmission.sta.edu.cn/
Visa:
To attend the program at STA, students must obtain an admission notice first and then get the DQ form (Information Form for Foreign Students' Short-term Visit) to apply for the student visa (X2) (short-term study less than 180 days) in their home country.
STA will issue the admission notice via email and help students to obtain the DQ form online. Enrolled students need to download the DQ form through the "Study in China" website with the same email address in our application system. Please make sure that your email address is correct and valid.
