Course Arrangement

Applicants of Shanghai International Studies University's intensive Chinese program are international students who are preparing to enter Chinese universities for undergraduate study or those who wish to improve their Chinese proficiency in a short period of time. The teaching objectives are to build up the students' Chinese language skills by holding daily open-topic discussions and learning Chinese grammar and vocabulary. After a period of intensive training, international students are expected to meet the requirements for entering Chinese universities for undergraduate study, namely reaching the Chinese language level of HSK 5.

01 Content of Courses

1) Comprehensive Chinese courses: basic Chinese courses (grammar, conversation and vocabulary), listening, and reading.

2) HSK training: intensive training separated into four parts: listening, grammar, reading and comprehensive Chinese courses.

02 Levels

The intensive program is classified into three levels: beginner level, elementary level and intermediate level. (Each level of class will be started when there are at least 10 confirmed students)

Beginner level

Beginner level is for students who have never studied Chinese before.

Elementary level

Elementary level is for students who have learned Chinese at any Chinese university for at least one semester or those who have an HSK2 certificate.

Intermediate level

Intermediate level is for students who have learned Chinese at any of Chinese university for at least one academic year or those who have an HSK3 certificate.

Application Deadline and Registration Arrangement

Application deadline for the autumn semester is June 30, 2024.

Registration dates for the Autumn semester: Sept 4, 5, 6, 2024.

Course Duration

Course duration: Sept 16, 2024 to Jan 10, 2025 for the 2024 Autumn semester intake, and completion certificates will be issued on Jan 12, 2025.

*There are 36 teaching hours per week, and one teaching hour equals 45 minutes.

Eligibility

Foreigners with a high school diploma or above, aged 18 years or above and below 50 years old (16-60 years old for short-term transfer studies), in good health, with reliable financial payment guarantees and guardians, and must not have a criminal record.

3) Application fee is 450 yuan ($62). (To be paid with tuition fee upon registration)

*When necessary, our school will require applicants to submit supplementary materials.

*The above materials and fees will not be refunded after submission or payment.

Tuition

One semester: 17,000 yuan

One year: 34,000 yuan

Notes: For those who apply to start courses after the above mentioned registration time, we cannot guarantee a space in the on-campus dormitories. If there is no room available, please handle off-campus accommodations independently.
