About ICES

The International Cultural Exchange School (ICES) at Fudan University specializes in Chinese language and culture programs for international students. As one of the first four designated bases for TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) courses in China, ICES offers a wide range of programs, including long-term and short-term language courses, general and advanced studies, and customized programs. Additionally, ICES provides degree programs for undergraduates majoring in Chinese Language & Culture and Business Chinese, as well as master's programs in TCSOL. Studying with ICES offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Chinese language, experience the vibrant culture, and engage with Shanghai life.

Non-degree programs open for application

01 Chinese Language Program

ICES adopts a unique model of instruction with a total of 10 levels in Chinese learning: four levels (ABCD levels) in Fundamental, four levels (EFGH) in Intermediate, and two levels (IJ) in Advanced. Each level takes about nine weeks, allowing students to finish two levels each semester in half a year. Students will be placed into appropriate levels according to the results of the online placement test on arrival.

02 Chinese Economy & Business Program (CEBP)

The Chinese Economy & Business Program is designed for students with intermediate or higher Chinese levels (HSK5) who want to gain insight into the business environment and conditions in China. This program provides students with an understanding of how successful local and global businesses survive and operate, equipping them for future business endeavors in China.

03 Chinese Culture & Society Program (CCSP)

The Chinese Culture & Society Program, or CCSP, is designed for students with intermediate or higher Chinese levels (HSK5) who want to learn about Chinese culture and experience Chinese society firsthand. The program offers a range of courses covering topics on Chinese culture, literature, customs, and contemporary Chinese society.
