In response to the global demand for Chinese language studies, Shanghai University offers an intensive Chinese language program. It features diverse teaching styles and a rich curriculum, enabling students to develop their Chinese language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Non-Chinese citizens with an ordinary foreign passport (validity of the passport should exceed one year)
High school graduates or above

Applicants are advised not to renew their passports before enrollment to avoid invalidation of their documents.

Curriculum
The Intensive Chinese Language Program consists of five levels: Level A (Beginners), Level B (Elementary), Level C (Pre-intermediate), Level D (Intermediate) and Level E (Advanced)
Students are advised to choose an appropriate level according to their proficiency in Chinese.
Certificate
A completion certificate will be issued to students who complete all courses and pass the examinations.
How to apply
1. Log onto the online application system of Shanghai University at https://apply.shu.edu.cn for registration.
2. Click "Apply Now" and enter your email address to register.
3. Select "Intensive Chinese Language Program (One Semester)" under "Non-degree Program," fill in your personal information, and upload the required documents such as an ID photo, a copy of the passport information page, and a study plan. Ensure the personal information matches that on the passport information page. The ID photo should be larger than 295*413 pixels and not exceed 200 kilobytes.
4. Submit the application and wait for a response.
5. Pay the application fee, upload the payment receipt to the system, and wait for a response. Complete the payment within two weeks after passing the preliminary review. If the payment is overdue, the application will not be further processed.
6. After receiving the electronic offer, pay half or the full tuition fee and upload the payment receipt to the "Paid Tuition Fee" section of the online application system. Confirm the offer and complete the application.
7. Wait for the official admission documents by email. The Admission Letter and Guide for Downloading the DQ/JW202 form will be emailed to students for a visa application. An official admission letter with a Shanghai University stamp is required for a visa application. A pre-admission letter without a stamp is invalid for a visa application.
Fees
Application fee: 500 yuan ($68.80). The application fee is nonrefundable, whether admitted or not.
Tuition fee: 9,900 yuan per term per person
Tuition deposit payment
All self-paid applicants must pay the tuition deposit (half or full tuition fee) within 20 working days after receiving the admission notice. Failure to complete payment within 20 days will result in forfeiture. For detailed deposit policies, please visit https://apply.shu.edu.cn/application/index.

On-campus accommodation
Students can apply for on-campus accommodation through the online application system after admission. The university will arrange accommodation based on availability. Successful applicants are required to check in within the specified period. Accommodation options include single rooms, double rooms, and quadruple rooms at Yanchang campus, costing 140 yuan/day for a single room, 70 yuan/day/bed for a double room, and 40 yuan/day/bed for a quadruple room.
* The number of available dorms is limited and not all applicants will be accommodated on campus.

The university will provide the documents necessary for applying for a study visa or residence permit. Students are advised to enter China one to two days before the registration date. Entering prematurely may lead to an early expiration of your visa.
