St. Olaf students' cultural odyssey in China

Students from St. Olaf College in the United States have kicked off 2025 with a 22-day journey through China. 

Shanghai

At the primary school of No 4 Middle School Affiliated to East China Normal University, elementary students gave an introduction to Chinese culture and Shanghai's landmarks in English. They also taught the guests Chinese painting and paper cutting.

The US students also visited Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum to learn about the city's history of sheltering Jewish refugees during World War II.

Nanjing

From the ancient wall of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the bustling Confucius Temple to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the students gained insights into the rich history of Nanjing, Jiangsu province.

Hangzhou

In Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, they sailed on West Lake, strolled along the ancient imperial street of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), and explored the Lingyin Temple.

Spring Festival

The US students joined ECNU students in a Spring Festival fair, experiencing traditional customs such as stilt walking, solving riddles, and writing the lucky Chinese character fu.
