Shanghai Conservatory of Music: Chinese Traditional Music Program

The Shanghai Conservatory of Music will hold the Shanghai Summer School — Chinese Traditional Music Program in June 2025.

1. Program duration and content

Duration: June 12 – July 4, 2025.

Professional instruction: Experts and professors from SHCM will conduct masterclasses for summer school students.

Cultural courses: Renowned scholars will offer lectures on topics such as "Chinese Musical Arts and Culture", "Music Aesthetics", and "Chinese Culture".

City exploration: Participants will visit key cultural landmarks in Shanghai, including the Shanghai Opera House and He Luting Concert Hall, and experience cultural activities in regions around Shanghai.

2. Enrollment quota

The program will receive 20 scholarship students. These students will be exempt from registration, tuition, accommodation, activity, and comprehensive insurance fees. Scholarships are available to foreign students who are studying overseas and aged 16 to 50. The organizing committee will select recipients from among the applications received, and the results will be announced at https://www.shcmusic.edu.cn/1659/list.htm.

3. Application details

Deadline: Feb 28, 2025

Fees: The fees for application, tuition, accommodation, activities, and comprehensive insurance under this Program will be covered by the scholarship. Meals and travel expenses must be self-funded.

Apply online at: admission.shcmusic.edu.cn. Please refer to the "Shanghai Summer School Chinese Traditional Music Program Online Application Guide" and read it carefully before submitting your application.

  • Required application materials:
  • Electronic scan of passport (photo page)
  • One ID photo and one casual photo
  • Proof of enrollment or graduation certificate
  • Cover letter (in Chinese or English)
  • Performance material (if available): one piece, no more than 500 megabytes

Notes:

After the school reviews and confirms the application materials, applicants will receive an admission notice and Information Form for Foreign Students’ Short-term Visa (DQ) via email. Applicants must enter China with a student visa (X2). Ensure that a valid email address and phone number are provided on the application form.

Applicants must report to the school on the date specified in the admission notice. If unable to report on time, prior approval from the school is required; otherwise, admission will be considered forfeited.

Submitted application materials will not be returned.
