Program overview

The 2025 Shanghai Summer School (New Media Art) program features three courses: New Media Theatre Making, New Media Theatre Art Lectures, and Chinese Culture. The curriculum focuses on how new media technologies can transform the expression of traditional Chinese opera. Key topics include case studies in new media theatre, interactive design for performing arts, and hands-on creative practices involving traditional opera. In the final phase of the workshop, students will collaborate in groups to create interactive new media artworks that incorporate elements of traditional Chinese opera or performance. These works will be showcased in the immersive multimedia Dome space in the Key Laboratory.

Beyond classroom learning, students will have the opportunity to attend traditional opera performances, visit cutting-edge theatre and new media art labs, and participate in cultural field trips.
