Shanghai Summer School: Traditional Chinese Medicine Program enrollment guide
1. Program overview
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a cornerstone of ancient Chinese science, is gaining global influence. Established in 2012, the Shanghai Summer School TCM Program takes place every summer, inviting international students and Chinese volunteers from various backgrounds to explore Shanghai and TCM through lectures, hands-on activities, and on-site visits.

Location: Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, main campus (No 1200 Cailun Road, Pudong New Area)
Program duration: June 2-27, spanning four weeks
Application deadline: April 15, 2025
2. Program highlights
Participants will engage in lectures covering TCM fundamentals, diagnostic techniques, meridians and acupoints, herbal medicine, clinical applications of acupuncture and massage, practical Chinese language, and cultural experiences.

- How TCM Perceives Diseases
- Application of Tuina in Modern Life
- TCM Teaches You to Identify Diseases
- Plants and Minerals as Medicine
- The Mystical Meridians and Acupoints of the Human Body
- The Magical Silver Needle
- Application of Acupuncture in Modern Life
- The Perfect Combination of Food and Medicine
Cultural experiences:
- Wuqinxi (Five Animal Frolics) practice
- Chinese language lessons
- Traditional cultural activities
- Visits to affiliated hospitals or training centers
Exchange and sharing:
- Student exchange meetings
- Experience sharing and program conclusion
Course schedule: Approximately 140 hours total, Monday to Friday, sessions at 9 am and 1:30 pm

4. Quota and scholarships
- Twenty students can apply for fully funded scholarships, covering tuition, accommodation, and activity fees.
- Twenty partially self-funded students should pay 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,377) per person. The payment covers tuition, accommodation (double rooms), and activity fees.
- Twenty fully self-funded students should pay 20,000 yuan per person. The payment covers tuition, accommodation (double rooms), and activity fees.
5. Certification
Participants who complete the program and pass the comprehensive assessment will receive a certificate of completion for non-degree education from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be between 18 and 50 years old, in good health, interested in TCM and Chinese culture, and possess valid international insurance. Preference is given to students in medical or related fields.
Application materials:
- Personal photo (DPI at least 200, file size at least 50 kilobytes, resolution at least 200x300)
- Scan of your passport information page
- Resume (including personal information, education, and work experience)
- Chinese language proficiency documents (such as HSK certificate, HSKK certificate, or proof of Chinese language learning. The absence of such documents will be considered as an indication that no relevant exam has been taken)
Visa application:
Use the admission notice and Short-Term International Student Information Form (DQ Form) to apply for an X2 study visa.
