Global China Program at East China Normal University
The Global China Program at East China Normal University provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about China through academic and cultural immersion. This program is open to current college students interested in studying in China for one semester (15 weeks). The program consists of two parts:
- Chinese language course (six credits) from beginning to advanced levels
- English-taught content courses (three credits each) on China Studies and related fields
The program offers a credit structure that aligns with the majority of North American universities and colleges. Course content is carefully designed to meet the requirements of these institutions.
1. Program duration
Sept 8 – Dec 19, 2025 (Classes start on Sept 15)
2. Course registration
Students can access the online application system to apply and register for courses.
Each semester, the university offers English-taught content courses on China Studies and several levels of Chinese language courses. Students may select up to four courses. Please note that a course might be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not reached.
Classes are held from Monday to Friday.

(5) Chinese Language
Chinese language courses are offered at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students will be assigned to the appropriate class based on their Chinese proficiency level.
4. Course selection guidelines
Students should select three to four courses per semester from the available offerings. Chinese language courses may be included in your selection but are not mandatory. Please note:
- Course availability varies by semester.
- Courses are subject to change or cancellation based on enrollment numbers.

5. Credit transfer
Students who wish to have the ECNU credits transferred to other colleges and universities are advised to consult with the appropriate academic authorities at their home institution in advance. The final decision on whether a particular course may be applied towards major or elective requirement is made by the academic advisers at students’ home institutions .
6. ECNU benefits
By participating in a variety of student activities, such as sports meets, international cultural festivals, and field trips, students will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Chinese culture and build meaningful connections with both Chinese and international peers.
7. Fees
- Application fee (non-refundable): 800 yuan ($109.79)
- Tuition: 18,000 yuan/semester
- Insurance: 800 yuan/year
8. Accommodation
Students may apply for on-campus dorms. Air-conditioning and free internet access are provided in all dorm rooms. Please check the university's website for more information: lxs.ecnu.edu.cn/en/accommodation

- Copy of high school or college graduation certificate and transcripts
- Proof of English proficiency for non-native speakers: IELTS (6.0 or above)/TOFEL (85 or above)/Cambridge English (B2 or above)
- Copy of passport
- ID Photo
10. Application procedure
- Apply online at http://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn, fill out the application form, and pay the application fee.
- The Global Education Center of ECNU will notify you via email after your application is processed and send you the admission notice and visa application form if you are accepted.
- Book on-campus dorms online or rent an apartment off-campus.
