Shanghai Xintiandi showcases the unique charm of Shikumen, a traditional architectural style that emerged in Shanghai in the early 20th century. Shikumen houses are characterised by stone gateways, brick walls, wooden doors and windows, and courtyards. They reflect the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures in Shanghai.
