Daxue Road, a model of the "small shop economy" in Yangpu district, has been recognised as a municipal-level characteristic commercial block and the first digital small shop demonstration street.

The road is surrounded by many universities and features a variety of speciality shops, such as open-air coffee shops, cultural book bars, speciality restaurants, bars and creative retail. These shops attract innovation and entrepreneurship groups and young consumers with their unique styles and lively atmosphere.

The buildings lining the road are decorated with large graffiti on the walls. Next to the subway station tunnel exit and the Popular Bookstore, there is a square where young people set up stalls selling handicrafts, accessories, pets and other items. The square becomes a bustling night market after dark, where college students flock to shop, pose and take photos. The market also hosts various themed exhibitions from time to time.
