Foreign students from the Intensive Chinese Program of East China Normal University recently delved into the ancient art of tea drinking at the Weiyang Academy in Shanghai.
The academy's classical Chinese architecture, reflecting styles from the Han, Tang, and Song dynasties (206 BC-1279), captivated the students. They learned about the history of tea in China and delved into tea culture from a tea master, such the art of tea frothing and tea quality standards during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Following tea-making rituals from the Song Dynasty, students carefully brewed their tea, savoring its subtle bitterness and trying their hand at tea froth painting to create unique designs.
They also shared their experiences, reflecting on China's charming ancient architecture, refined tea culture, and beautiful traditional attire. This social practice activity not only enhanced the language skills of the students, but also deepened their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and traditions.
