ECUST students immerse in Guizhou culture, shine at Village BA tournament

Students and faculty from East China University of Science and Technology embarked on a tour of Guizhou province from July 16 to 20. Their journey took them to Taijiang, Xijiang, and Zhenyuan, among other locations, where they delved into the rich historical heritage of the Miao ethnic group.

In Hongyang Miao village, Taijian, the students explored traditional Miao architecture and participated in authentic Miao ceremonies. In Qianhu Miao village, Xijiang, they learned about unique wooden stilt houses and studied the Miao people's enduring customs, including agriculture, festivals, and attire. Their journey continued to the ancient town of Zhenyuan, where they visited the Qinglong Cave architectural complex, renowned as the "Guizhou Ancient Architecture Museum". This complex seamlessly integrates Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist elements, captivating the group with its grandeur, audacious design, and intricate layout.

A highlight of the tour was an invitation from the Taijiang government to participate in the grassroots basketball tournament known as the "Village Basketball Association" or "Village BA", which was held in Taipan village. The East China University of Science and Technology team competed against the local team in a spirited contest and emerged victorious with a score of 83 to 70. After the game, the students expressed their intention to promote the basketball spirit and culture of Taipan village to friends home and abroad, helping to elevate its presence on the global stage.
