International students at the Shanghai Theatre Academy participated in a seal carving workshop in late October.

The workshop was led by Huang Yanting from the Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Publishing House, who provided an engaging introduction.

Huang discussed the 2008 Beijing Olympics emblem, the origins and functions of Chinese seals, the history of literati seal carving, and essential knowledge of the craft.

Huang guided the students in appreciating seal inscriptions, knobs, and materials.

Under her guidance, the students engraved small seal stones with their Chinese names or other meaningful patterns. Each piece reflected their interpretation of Chinese culture.
