Abdelquoddousse Kailil from Morocco discovered a lesser-known side of Shanghai along the banks of the Huangpu River: the remnants of power plants, textile warehouses, and old airport fuel tanks — traces of Shanghai's century-old industrial legacy.

Curious to learn more, Kailil looked into why a rapidly modernizing Shanghai choose to preserve these industrial relics and transform them into landscapes that seemingly clash with the city's contemporary image. Through conversations with experts, he learned that these industrial sites are irreplaceable cultural veins of Shanghai. Preserving and repurposing them is essential to passing down the city's rich spirit through generations. Watch the video to explore Shanghai's past with Kailil.
