The Global Education Center at East China Normal University recently organized an ice-breaking activity to help international freshmen connect with each other and explore Shanghai.

The activity divided them into two teams to explore different parts of the city.

One group was assigned to complete their tasks at the Shanghai Museum East. Teachers from the Global Education Center pre-selected photos of several artifacts, such as a blue and white vase with cloud and dragon patterns, a calligraphy scroll by the Song Dynasty (960-1279) calligrapher and poet Huang Tingjian, and a colored glazed pottery figure of a civil official. The students were encouraged to locate and learn the culture and history behind these artifacts.

The other group had tasks to explore Yuyuan Garden, where they sought out iconic landmarks such as the Dragon Wall, Jade Rock, and Dianchun Hall. Enveloped by historical architecture and serene landscapes, they were able to appreciate the unique charm of Chinese classic gardens.
