International students explore Chinese language in cultural event
More than 70 international students from over 20 countries explored Chinese culture, language and traditional medicine in a spring-themed event recently hosted by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The cultural journey began in Yudun village, Fengxian district, where students toured a local history museum showcasing the deep-rooted connection between fishing culture and traditional Chinese medicine. Ship models and straw raincoats on display offered a vivid window into the local heritage, sparking curiosity among the students.
Dressed in traditional Chinese attire, the students later took to the stage to perform eight Chinese songs. African students performed energetic dances, while local primary school children presented classic excerpts from Yueju Opera, creating a vibrant cultural exchange.
The event wrapped up with a lively spring market where students engaged with TCM culture through interactive activities. From crafting herbal sachets and sampling seasonal teas based on the 24 solar terms, to making intricately shaped sugar figurines, students enjoyed a hands-on experience of the sensory richness of Chinese healing culture.
