International students discover ancient Chinese ceramic art at Sanda University
An immersive lecture on Chinese ceramic culture gave international students a vivid glimpse into China's millennia-old craftsmanship.
Organized by the School of Art Design and Media at Sanda University on May 14, the event welcomed exchange students from Japan, Germany, Finland and Egypt, alongside Sanda's international students.
Renowned ceramicist and associate professor Yuan Ye led the session, tracing the 5,000-year journey of Chinese ceramics through fascinating stories and striking visuals. Yuan highlighted the legacy of black pottery, from its Neolithic roots to its cultural significance in later historical periods.
Fascinated by the transformation of humble soil into fine art, students eagerly asked questions and later tried their hands at shaping pottery under Yuan's guidance.
The event exemplified Sanda University's efforts to blend cultural heritage with international exchange. "It's our mission to share China's story with the world through ceramics," Yuan said, expressing hope that students would help carry this ancient tradition across borders as cultural ambassadors.
