A team of international students from Shanghai Theatre Academy took first prize in the "Unlock My Exclusive Jing'an" exploration challenge, impressing judges with their sharp cultural insights and seamless teamwork.

Held on May 25, the one-day event brought together Gen Z students to rediscover Jing'an district through a fresh, youthful perspective.

The award-winning team, composed of students from India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and the United States, highlighted several of Jing'an's iconic landmarks by capturing the district's vibrant blend of tradition and modernity.

Team leader Zerin Moirangthem from India coordinated the group's overall strategy, handling everything from task delegation and route planning to budgeting and photography.

Japanese student Kagatani Fuzuki and ROK student Song Min-kyoung conducted in-depth field research at key sites across Jing'an, gathering firsthand materials for their presentation.

Malaysian student Kiong Xin Xi transformed their findings into a visually stunning presentation, while American student Roman Pablo Xavier Olavarria delivered a powerful concluding speech that impressed the judges.

"From language barriers to tight schedules, we encountered a number of challenges," said Zerin. "But our strong team spirit was the key to overcoming them all. Everyone stepped up and supported one another."

With a Gen Z perspective, they documented their journey through photos, interviews, and hand-drawn sketches, weaving together a story of a district where old meets new.

In his speech, Roman captured the essence of their experience with a powerful theme: "Jing'an's inclusiveness — preserving history while embracing innovation," which resonated strongly with the judges.

"I thought the activity was a lively event that helped us develop a deeper relationship with Jing'an's places, people, and events," Roman added. "It was invigorating because all the resources are available to people in Jing'an."
