A Peruvian international student in Shanghai, who goes by the Chinese name "Xinyi" (欣怡), was amazed by China's whole-process democracy after visiting the Taishan People's Community in Yichuan, located in Shanghai's Putuo district. "I love China," she said, the words flowing from her mouth in excitement.

Xinyi recently visited the Taishan People's Community, in which she was impressed by a hub of vitality where "people are the masters". Through her lens, she documented what she saw and shared it on her on social platform.

Inside the main building, she observed residents chatting and resting, others playing chess, and books and specimens displayed on shelves. This warm, everyday scene made her feel right at home.

What impressed her most was the "Public Suggestions Wall"—where proposals from a retired teacher for greening improvements and initiatives from a delivery rider for a warm-hearted rest station were respectfully displayed alongside their progress updates. "Everyone can be a driver of change in the community," she said. "This is perhaps the most vivid illustration of 'whole-process people's democracy'."

Xinyi also saw how the city has evolved—with residents participating in every major project.

This visit added a deeper understanding about Shanghai and even China. Through her lens, she captured not just a physical space, but a form of governance wisdom that allows everyone to shine and contribute.

She said that China's democracy is rooted in the lively streets and neighborhoods, blooming in the smiles of every person who is seen, respected, and needed.
