Zhangyuan now supports citywide tax refund services
Zhangyuan, a historical and cultural site in Shanghai's Jing'an district, has upgraded its departure tax refund services, becoming a citywide refund location for international visitors.
It now accepts refund claims from all tax free stores across the city.
Alongside Shanghai No 1 Yaohan department store and The Central shopping mall, Zhangyuan is now one of three venues in the city that accept citywide refund claims.
To improve efficiency, Zhangyuan is piloting self-service machines that allow overseas shoppers to quickly generate refund application forms — an initiative expected to reduce wait times and streamline the process.
Clear signage has also been added throughout the area, especially in Building 8, where signs for both the centralized refund and the instant "refund-upon-purchase" services are prominently displayed for easy access.
Participating retailers range from global names to homegrown brands, including Birkenstock, Hunter, Sisley, and Arcadia Hall. Staff members are available to guide international shoppers through the refund process.
At Zhangyuan, travelers can enjoy instant tax refunds while taking in the architectural charm of Shanghai's iconic Shikumen lanes. This combination of tax-free shopping and cultural heritage is designed to enhance Zhangyuan's position as a high-end international retail destination — and create a memorable, distinctly local experience for global visitors.
