The Shanghai Pass is a multipurpose prepaid card designed for overseas visitors to Shanghai. It simplifies access to transportation, cultural venues, and shopping centers. In essence, it functions like an upgraded transport card, allowing holders to pay for a wide range of tourism-related services and goods.

The card features iconic Shanghai buildings on the front and a QR code on the back that provides access to a bilingual user guide. It has a maximum balance of 1,000 yuan (about $140) and can be purchased at major transport hubs and subway stations throughout the city.

In Shanghai, the Shanghai Pass is accepted for payments on buses, subways, taxis, ferries, as well as at cultural and tourist spots, supermarkets, and convenience stores. It is also compatible with public transportation in more than 330 cities across China, including Beijing, Xi'an in Shaanxi province, and Guangzhou in Guangdong province.
