Beauty economy draws international visitors to Fengxian
For International visitors shopping in Shanghai, Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road have long been familiar choices. Now, a different destination is drawing attention: Oriental Beauty Valley, a major beauty and health industry cluster in Fengxian district.
Fengxian is home to more than one-third of Shanghai's cosmetics manufacturers, including leading Chinese brands such as Chando and Pechoin. Once part of the global contract manufacturing chain, the district has been shifting toward building and strengthening its own brands.
In recent weeks, groups of industry professionals and consumers from countries such as France, Malaysia, and Turkiye have visited Chando Store, a key attraction in the Oriental Beauty Valley.
They explored its smart production lines, learned how beauty products are developed and manufactured, tried Chinese skincare and cosmetics, and purchased popular products known for quality and value.
More than a factory, Chando Store is a city-level industrial tourism complex that combines manufacturing, exhibitions, retail, and interactive experiences. Transparent smart production lines, traceable product development processes, and immersive displays show visitors how Chinese beauty products are created and the technology behind them. The experience offers overseas visitors a closer look at modern manufacturing in China and homegrown beauty brands.
As the district welcomes a growing number of international visitors, it is also enhancing the shopping experience. Chando Store offers multilingual services and guidance on departure tax refunds for eligible overseas travelers. Meanwhile, local authorities are working to introduce the "refund-upon-purchase" service, allowing visitors to receive their tax refunds immediately after making a purchase.
