Sandriver showcases traditional Xizang weaving at Shanghai runway show
On Oct 18, Chinese luxury cashmere brand Sandriver unveiled its Fall-Winter 2026/27 collection, transforming North Maoming Road in Zhangyuan into a 100-meter runway. The show featured pulu, a traditional woolen fabric woven in Gyalze county in the Xizang autonomous region.
Founded in Shanghai in 2012 by Guo Xiuling, Sandriver sources its cashmere from family-owned farms in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and the Himalayas. The brand says that some Himalayan cashmere fibers are as fine as 13.8 microns. By purchasing raw materials directly from herding families, Sandriver seeks to preserve the fibers' natural qualities.
In 2023, Sandriver launched a 10-year initiative to revive traditional pulu weaving by enhancing design, establishing local workshops, and expanding international sales channels. By setting up workshops in villages, the initiative aims to provide local women with a stable income while ensuring the weaving skills are passed on to the next generation.
Earlier this year, Sandriver opened its largest flagship store worldwide at W17 in Zhangyuan— the first time the area has hosted a Chinese-founded luxury brand.
Over the past decade, Sandriver has expanded into high-end retail channels in cities including Paris and New York. The brand has presented collections at Paris Fashion Week for several consecutive years and was the first Chinese cashmere brand to enter Le Bon Marche, the Paris department store owned by LVMH. Overseas sales account for nearly 40 percent of the brand's total sales.
At its Zhangyuan flagship store, Sandriver extends its customization services beyond clothing to include luxury items such as cashmere wallpaper, countertops, curtains, and bedding. Aman Resorts, the global luxury hotel brand, is among its long-term clients.
